Offering a wide range of support and holistic services to people on the Gold Coast.
A doula (Pronounced "Doo-Lah") is a professional Labour Assistant. A doula provides informative, emotional support during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period.
What is the difference between a Doula and a Midwife?
A midwife provides clinical care for the mother and the baby. A midwife is trained to do physical examinations such as vaginal exams, blood pressure, heart rate and over all health evaluations of the mother and baby. A doula does not perform any medical tasks. A doula is trained to perform a high amount of emotional support for the mother, father and the baby. Doula's do not replace professional medical care.
Isn't this my husbands/partners job?
A doula is here to support the whole family. This means that your partner is able to be completely involved in the birth of your baby, without having to worry about the small things like getting water, or going to the toilet.
I plan to use medication, can I still benefit from having a Doula?
Absolutely! Your need for support and encouragement continues even with an epidural!
What if i decide that I would like pain medication during labour? Will you support my decision?
Of course!! What ever you decide is best for you I will support you 100%
What If I'm having a Cesarean Section? Can I still benefit from having a Doula? As your Doula I will help you to understand all of your options before, during and after a cesarean section. You may need to get special permission for me to stay with you during the birth, but if you cannot I can join you afterwards while your partner stays in the nursery with the baby. Breastfeeding is sometimes more challenging after a cesarean, and I will be there to support and encourage you.
